100 Days of School

On Monday, Brody dressed as a 100 year old man to celebrate the 100th day of school with his class, and he looked pretty adorable as a little old man!!  Mrs. Cook had planned several fun activities and snacks all about the number 100...they counted and ate 10 pieces of 10 different snacks, painted 100 gumballs in a gumball machine, put 10 stickers into 10 circles, walked 100 steps through the school, and made a necklace with 100 fruit loops.  I was so glad that Colby and I were able to join in on the fun too!

5th Annual Blood Drive and Bake Sale

Our 5th annual Blood Drive and Bake Sale in honor of Colby will be on Saturday, February 9 from 9-2 at Hendersonville Church of Christ.  We are very excited to be doing this for another year, and we hope that this is the biggest and best yet!

BLOOD DRIVE

If you would like to donate blood, please send me an email to jbbhitchcock@gmail.com, and I will get you signed up.  Having an appointment time should really cut down on your wait time!  We will schedule appointments in 15 minute intervals starting at 9 am and ending at 1:45 pm.  In your email, please include your name, contact number or email, and a time range that works for you.  I will enter it on the schedule and then send you a confirmation email with your appointment time.  We have set a goal of 75 donors, so please spread the word and help us fill all these time slots!!

BAKE  SALE

We will also be doing the bake sale again this year and donating all proceeds to the CHD Research efforts at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in honor of Colby.  If you are interested in providing baked goods for the sale, we would greatly appreciate it!!  Please send me an email to jbbhitchcock@gmail.com.  Just let me know what type of baked goods you would like to provide...cookies, brownies, muffins, candies, breads, cakes, pies, cupcakes, trail mixes, etc.

If you would like to make a direct donation in honor of Colby, that would also be greatly appreciated!  Checks should be made to "Monroe Carrell Jr Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt."  On the memo line, please write "CHD Research."  You can mail those to me or bring them by the church on February 9th.

VOLUNTEERS

If you are available to volunteer during the bake sale, please let me know. We really appreciate any and all help!!!  Thank you!!

Cardiology Check Up

On Tuesday, January 8, Colby had his 6 month Cardiology Check-up with Dr. Doyle.  Before his appointment, we were able to spend some time with Nadia and Suha!  I love visiting with them and wish we could do it more often.  These two are so much alike it is scary!  I think when Nadia gets her new heart and is out of the hospital, they are going to have a lot of fun together...and probably get into a lot of trouble together!

Colby's appointment was long but good!  He had an echo, EKG, weight, height, and sats...all of which received good reports.  Dr. Doyle said the echo showed that the Fenestration Hole left during the Fontan is very small and does not seem to be posing a problem at this time, so we are going to leave it alone for another year!!!  This was great news to us, because we had kind of prepared ourselves for a cath procedure to close it soon.  His sats are in the low to mid 90s, which is great for his anatomy!  He even grew an inch or so and is now a little over 3 ft tall and weighs 13.34 kg or 29.4 pounds!!

Colby was given a halter monitor to wear for 24 hours.  From what I understand, this is just a routine check for post Fontan patients.  He did amazingly well with this!  He even wore it to school with no problems.  He is such a great patient!!  We will mail the monitor back and should hear results in a week or two.  Dr. Doyle does not expect to find any problems, though.

"Dr. Love" was in rare form for the entire 2 hour appointment!  He even told the Cardiology Fellow that his name was Dr. Love like is written on his new t-shirt.  This little guy keeps us laughing constantly!  God truly blessed him with a BIG personality, and it is hard for anyone to not love him!

New Year's Breakfast

We started our New Year with our traditional breakfast with friends, and this group just continues to grow.  This year, I had to make the reservation for 25!!!   It was so great having everyone there, though.  I love that we have been able to continue this tradition for so many years, and I hope we can continue it for many more!    I unfortunately didn't remember my camera, but luckily, Jay got a picture with his phone.  Thanks Jay!

We hope everyone has a very healthy, happy, and blessed 2013!
