A Visit with Cain

Our buddy, Cain, had his Fontan operation last Monday, and he, like Colby, did amazingly well! He was out of the PCICU and on the floor only a couple days after surgery. This meant that we could all go visit, so on Sunday after church, we headed to the hospital. When we got there, Cain was a little unhappy and in some pain. My heart was breaking for Catherine and Brad. Being in the hospital and watching your baby in pain is extremely difficult, and since we were in the same position only 2 short months ago, I just wanted to fix it for them somehow!

Obviously there is no way to fix it. All we can do as friends is pray for healing for Cain and strength for Catherine and Brad, but it made me so happy that Colby was able to get some smiles from Cain. After seeing Colby playing with all his toys, Cain decided he wanted to sit up and play too. We sat Colby in the bed beside him and let them play together for a while, which was absolutely adorable! If anyone can understand how Cain was feeling, it is Colby!! These two boys definitely share a special bond, and because of this bond, I hope they remain friends forever. As they get older, they can lean on each other for support just like Catherine and I have over the last 2 1/2 years!

Cain was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and is doing well. I'm sure he will continue to heal and recover much better in the comfort of his own home. I can't wait until he is back to 100 percent, so we can get these two wild boys together for some more play time!
