Cardiology Check-Up

Last Tuesday afternoon, Colby had his 6 month return check up with his cardiologist. As always, we started with sats, weight, height, blood pressure, and an EKG. To Jason's and my surprise, he did so great with all of these!!! We were laughing as the nurse did his EKG, because we can remember when he was a baby how he would fight having this done. He would scream, cry, and kick...he did not like to lay down. This time, though, he acted like it was no big deal. This is such a big relief!

He did great having all of these tests done, but the best news are the results of all these tests!! Colby is continuing to defy all odds and amaze every one around us, including his doctors! His sats were 86 (unbelievable!), and his blood pressure and EKG looked great (for having Tricuspid Atresia). In fact, Dr. Doyle thought he looked so good that he didn't see any need to discuss his final surgery at this time. We are scheduled to go back in 6 months, which will be April. At that time, we will schedule his surgery for sometime between May and October...Dr. Doyle definitely wants him to have the Fontan before next year's flu season.

When I left this appointment, I couldn't stop smiling. I just kept thanking God for always taking care of our little Colby. We know that the only reason Colby is doing so well, despite his very complex heart defect, is because of God and His Greatness.

Walking for our Little Heart Heroes

The American Heart Association's Heart Walk is on Saturday, October 2. Jason and I are very excited to be participating this year. We have joined forces with the Clinkscales Family (Cain) to help spread some awareness for Congenital Heart Disease.

We would love for you to join us at this walk in support of Colby, Cain, and other children dealing with Congenital Heart Disease. We have named our team "Little Heart Heroes," because that is what these boys and other children are...true heroes! They only have half of a heart, but they have shown time and time again that they have twice the fight! We want you to help them in this fight against Heart Disease by walking with us, or if you are unable to attend the walk, you can always make a donation in Colby and Cain's name. As always, we truly appreciate all of the support that you all continue to give us! We are so blessed to have each and every one of you in our lives.

Please use the link below to visit Colby and Cain's American Heart Association Web page. You can join our team to walk with us or make a donation in honor of these Little Heart Heroes. If you would like to participate but do not want to navigate the AHA website, please feel free to send me a message, and I will be more than happy to register you on the site. We hope to make this a big event with lots of friends and family members walking...the more people, the more awareness that will be raised about this horrible disease!

Feel free to email or call me with any questions you have. I hope to see everyone walking with us on Saturday, October 2nd. The festivities begin at 8 am, and the walk begins at 10 am at Vanderbilt...the corner of 25th Avenue and Children's Way.

If you are not taken directly to a page with a picture of Colby and Cain when clicking on the link below, then please click on "Find a Team" on the left side of the page you are taken to. Then, type in "Little Heart Heroes." Select our team name and it will direct you to our team page. At the bottom, on the right, click on "Becca Hitchcock" to go to our page. Here, you can join our team to walk or donate money.

Some of our Summer Fun

We had a great summer this year! I am kind of sad to see it end, but I am really looking forward to some cooler weather and some good Fall fun!

Below are pictures from some of the fun things we did this summer...

The boys always have a good time playing in our baby pools and spraying each other with the hose.

Brody taught Colby to kick the soccer ball. Maybe he will also be a little soccer star in the future.

We went over to cousins Emilee and Kylee's house a couple of times and played in their big water slide, which Brody loves! Colby was happy to just play in the water table.

We went to the pool several times this summer. It is amazing how much easier and more enjoyable it was this year.

It has been unbelievably hot this summer, but we were able to find one day that we could go to the Zoo. It was so much fun, and I hope we are able to go more this Fall. The carousel was a big hit with both boys!

Brody and Remi got creative one day and turned our playground slide into a water slide. They had a blast!

Harper turned 6 in July, so we met her, Darbye, Jeanine, and my parents at Chuck E Cheese for a little celebration. This was Colby's first time at Chuck E Cheese, and he absolutely loved it!

The boys love days where they can just relax together and watch TV or play at home. These are also some of my favorite times. I love seeing them cuddle together!

Go Daddy Go!

Jason competed in his second Century (a 100 mile bike race) last Saturday in Clarksville. Brody was so sweet and wanted to make daddy some "Good Luck" signs. I thought they turned out really well! Brody was most proud of the "G" he wrote on one of the signs. He is really getting good at writing his letters...thanks to Ms. Marianne and Pre-K!

Jason did awesome in the race. He finished in under 5 hours, which I think is incredible. Jason, when I met you over 10 years ago, I never dreamed you would become such an avid bike rider. I am so extremely happy that you have found something you truly love doing and that keeps you sane through our stressful times. We are very proud of you and love you very much!

No More Diapers for Brody

We are finally buying diapers for only one child!! Yay!! Brody has been napping without a diaper and waking up in the morning with dry diapers for about a month. So, we decided that when we ran out of this pack of pull ups, we were not going to buy anymore. He was actually very excited about sleeping in his underwear. He even made the comment, "I'm like an adult now!" Ha! Here is our big boy in all his glory the other morning after waking up with dry underwear for the first time. He is so proud, and so are we!!!!

Go Titans!

Last Thursday, September 2nd, we took the boys to a Tennessee Titans Football Game. This was Colby's first football game and Brody's second game. Jason and I took Brody to his first Titans Game when he was about a year old. It is hard to believe that was 3 years ago!

The game started at 7, so we got there early and had dinner. Both boys were so excited!! I just love watching them get to do new things and have so much fun doing them. There is nothing better than seeing their big smiles!!

At halftime, there were BMX trick riders, and Brody and Colby went crazy watching them! It was a school night for Brody, though, so we unfortunately had to leave after that. I am so glad they had a great time! I wish we could take them to more games, but noon games on Sunday are not very practical for little boys who need naps! We will definitely go to more in the future, though!

Nashville Sounds

We took the boys to their first Nashville Sounds Baseball Game last Saturday, August 28th, and we had a blast! The boys loved the music, the game, and especially the food. Mr. Nick, Ms. Kelly, Remi, and Bain went with us, which made the game even more fun. We will definitely have to do this again next season!
