Brody has played soccer for 14 years, and he has been very fortunate up to this point. He has only had one major injury, which was a broken wrist several years ago. Unfortunately, this all changed during last Tuesday nights game. He went down in the first half right after this play pictured, and he didn't get back up. I've seen him go down enough over the years to know this time was different. He was carried off the field and evaluated by our school's trainer. He was unable to put any weight on it, so the trainer gave him a boot and some crutches. We headed home after the game and tried to manage his pain the best we could overnight.
We went to the doctor first thing Wednesday morning and were told exactly what the trainer suspected. He had sustained some damage to the arch in his foot. An MRI the next day confirmed just how bad that damage was. He suffered a Lisfranc Fracture. This means no weight bearing for at least 6 weeks and a boot for 3 months minimum. He goes back in two weeks for an x-ray to see if there has been any improvement at all. If not, we will be discussing moving forward with surgery, which we definitely don't want him to need!
With it being Brody's senior year, this hit us pretty hard. It doesn't seem "fair," but as we all know, life rarely is. Brody has handled this with a maturity and grace that makes us beyond proud of him. He is finding ways to move that allows him to still be in school and work. He is sad that he can't finish his senior soccer season, but he's determined to support his team the best he can from the sideline.
Please pray for Brody! Pray he will not need surgery. Pray that he is able to walk for his graduation. Pray that his pain improves and his foot starts to heal. We know God is good, and His plans are perfect, even when we don't understand them in the moment.
