We just got home from our friends Thomas and Beth's house. They live just up the street, and we also attend the same church. Beth invited us and a few other couples from church over for a cookout, and surprise!...it was a "Welcome Little Slugger" party for Colby! Beth had decorated with baseball items, and Karen even made some baseball cupcakes. Everything was adorable! It was so much fun visiting, and Colby got some super cute gifts! As I have said several times before, we are so blessed with the wonderful people around us!
Thanks so much for thinking of us and organizing this get together Beth and Thomas, and thank you Wilkinsons, Richardsons, and Swints for your kindness and words of encouragement!! It means so much to us!!!

We love our neighbors!
I am convinced that we have the best neighbors ever! Three of our neighbors, Jennifer, Tracy, and Annie, planned and hosted a baby shower for our little Colby last night, and several of our other neighbors joined us to celebrate. We had such a great time eating, talking, and laughing...it is always nice to spend some time with just the girls! We have been so blessed with not only a wonderful family, but also with great neighbors and friends! We are so thankful to have such an awesome support system in place for when Colby arrives. Thank you to everyone who came last night, especially Jennifer, Tracy, and Annie for hosting! All of your friendships mean so much to us!

Delivery Date Scheduled
Jason and I went for our 36 week visit and weekly BPP this morning. Colby is still looking great and fortunately, I am showing no signs of labor (no dilation). We will pray that continues, because our C-Section has been scheduled for Thursday, August 7! I am excited to have the date and time on the calendar, but I am also very nervous! It has finally hit me that we are about to have another baby! I have a lot to get done in the next 3 weeks!!

A Surprise Baby Shower!
Last night, my mom had invited us to come over to my Grandmother's house for what I thought was a late 4th of July cookout. I was so happy when we got there, because the majority of my cousins, my 2 aunts and uncles, my grandmother, my sister, and my parents were all there. It is not an easy task to get everyone together at one time! As we finished up dinner, they brought out a baby cake...I thought it was really nice, but I was still clueless as to the fact that this was a surprise baby shower. After cake, my dad comes walking in with several gifts. That is when it finally hit me!! I know, I am kind of slow these days!
My family had organized this whole surprise for our little Colby!! I was so excited!!! We have not really bought Colby anything yet...I guess the shock of our situation has kind of delayed us in our preparations for his arrival. Now, though, Colby has bouncey seats, a new swing (which is great since Brody kind of made ours sit a little crooked), pajamas, diapers, wipes, loveys, onesies, etc. This makes Jason and I very happy!!!
As I have said before, we have an amazing family!!! I am so thankful that they are in our lives, and I don't know what we would do without them! God definitely blessed us, and in doing so, He has blessed Colby with such an incredible and loving support system!
Thank you family for your love and for the big surprise last night!!! We truly appreciate it!! We love you all!

Colby's Cardio Update
Jason and I returned to our cardiologist, Dr. Liske, yesterday. I have to start out by saying how thoroughly impressed we are with Dr. Liske and his office staff. We could not be happier with the treatment we have received this far, and we are positive that this is the best possible place to care for little Colby!! This makes dealing with what we are facing a little bit easier.
After an extensive echo cardiogram/ultrasound, Dr. Liske has concluded that Colby's heart is showing no change. This is so good to hear, since I of course had fears of them finding more abnormalities now that he is bigger. He also said that there is adequate blood flowing to Colby's lungs, so he should not be blue when he is born (this is a common problem for babies born with heart defects). The adequate blood flow also means that there is a very good chance Colby will not need his first surgery immediately!!!! Thank you God!!! Dr. Liske told us he was about 75% sure we would leave the hospital with our baby before he has to undergo any major surgery! This is such a blessing!!
As far as our initial stay in the hospital post delivery, which has been a huge question in our minds, Dr. Liske seems to think he will probably need around 5-7 days in the NICU for monitoring. If no other complications occur, such as feeding problems and weight gain (also another common problem for heart babies), we should be able to take him home after this week or so stay. This sounds great to us...we were fearing a much longer stay.
All in all, Colby is looking pretty good! Jason and I agree that he is probably going to be feisty and resilient...he was jumping around the whole time they were trying to look at his heart. I think we can all agree that an active baby is a good thing in our case, and he is definitely active!
While we were speaking with Dr. Liske, Jason mentioned that he would love for us to wait the full 40 weeks before we deliver. Dr. Liske did agree that it wouldn't be a bad idea...one more week to develop and grow. For me, at this point, I guess one more week of being a little uncomfortable would be worth it if it would give Colby the best start possible. So, now we just have to speak with our OB office and make sure they are okay with this. If they are, then we could deliver on August 8th. We will never have a hard time remembering this birthday...8/8/08! We will have to let you know when we finally decide on a date.

34 Week Visit
We had another great visit with our OB today. I am still progressing normally with no signs of any complications...thankfully!! We have tentatively set the date of our C-section for August 1, which will make me 39 weeks. I am excited to have a date in mind, but it also makes me kind of nervous...that is only 4 1/2 weeks away! This pregnancy seems to have just flown by!
During our BPP, the Sonographer took measurements of Colby and has estimated his weight at about 6 pounds (5 lb 13 oz). This made Jason and I very happy!! This should put him on track to be a good size when he is born. The bigger, the better!!!! Colby seems to be happy and doing well, which is such a blessing!!!
After what seems like the longest wait ever, we return to Dr. Liske, our Cardiologist, on Thursday. He will do another echo cardiogram to check on Colby's heart. I am very anxious for this appointment. Part of me wants to believe that his heart will have miraculously gotten better, but the other part of me is in reality and knows there is not a very good chance of that....we just have to trust in God's plan for little Colby and for our family. I just pray that nothing has changed for the worse! Dr. Liske should be able to give us a better idea of what to expect after delivery (based on the echo). Jason and I are both eager to have some sort of plan in mind for what is to come...you all know me, I'm a planner!
We will keep you posted on what we find out from Dr. Liske on Thursday. We will also let you know for sure about our delivery date once that is finalized. I think we are looking good for August 1, though.

32 Week Visit
We are very happy to report that yesterday's visit was very quick and uneventful...almost like a "normal" prenatal visit. We spoke with the doctor for a few minutes and then had our first BPP. Colby was so cooperative that the BPP was over in about 10 minutes! As soon as the Sonographer got Colby on the screen, he showed his breathing exercise, which is one of the things she has to look for each time. She then quickly recorded the other "tricks" she needed, and we were done. He was so well behaved!!
Jason, on the other hand, was apparently not well behaved. On the way to our appointment, we got pulled over by a police officer on West End. We weren't speeding, didn't run a red light or stop sign, didn't have expired tags...no, we were pulled over because Jason didn't have his seat belt on!!!! The police officer stopped us, took Jason's license, and then went back to his car for 5-10 minutes (it felt like forever...probably because we were running a little late!). When he finally came back to our car, he simply told Jason that this was normally a $10 non-moving violation. He was going to let us go with a warning, though. If you know Jason, you can imagine the response that he wanted to come back with. Luckily for me, though, he held his tongue and we were able to make it to our appointment only 5 minutes late.
I'm just glad that our excitement for this day was before the appointment and not during the appointment!! We've had enough unexpected "excitement" with this pregnancy!

Good News!
The nurse just called from our doctors' office to let me know that my 3 hour glucose test results were normal...no gestational diabetes!!! This is of course a big relief! One less thing to worry about is a blessing!
What a Morning!
I went back to the doctor today for my 3 hour glucose test. I have been dreading it all week...the thought of having 3 hours all alone in a waiting room did not appeal to me. Sure, I guess it would have been some "me" time, but that is not exactly the type of "me" time I would want. I am still not doing well with having lots of quiet time to think...I tend to think way too much about little Colby and the challenges he will face and just make myself crazy. Again, the unknown is what is so hard for me right now. My imagination runs a little too wild sometimes!
Luckily, my dad surprised me and went with me while my mom stayed at our house to watch Brody (thanks again mom for watching the wild man). I don't think this is the type of "fun" my dad envisioned for his first week of retirement- sitting outside a lab for 3 hours- but being the amazing dad that he is, he did it for me!! Thank you again daddy!!! Your company was very much appreciated!!!! I would have been a basket case by the end of that 3 hours without you!
I am hoping to hear the results of my test later this afternoon, but if not, I guess we should definitely find out Monday. The sooner, the better!! If I do have diabetes, I would like to do everything I can to get it under control quickly so it doesn't affect Colby in any way. Hopefully, I do not have it, though!!! So, for now, I will just have to sit and wait and try not to think about it!
