On Tuesday, June 19, we went to see Dr. Doyle for Colby's 6 month follow up Cardiology Appointment. It has been over a year since his "final" heart surgery, yet I still got extremely nervous going into this appointment. I told someone the other day that I don't think the nervousness will ever completely go away when it comes to his little heart.
It turns out I was nervous for no reason this time! Colby is doing great!!! He has grown a couple inches in height...he's almost 3 feet tall now!! His blood pressure and EKG were great, and his sats were 90. We couldn't be happier!! Colby was really happy too when Dr. Doyle said he could stop taking his Lasix (diuretic). Colby figured out that it was the Lasix making him have to go potty so much in the first couple hours after taking it, and he did not like that!!!
Colby will go back in January for a 6 month checkup. At that time, they will do an echo to check on the fenestration hole that was purposely left open during his Fontan. This hole is necessary at first to help the body adjust to the change in blood flow. Sometimes, the hole will close on its own, but sometimes a cath procedure is needed to close it up. If the echo shows that the hole is still open, we will schedule the cath procedure for sometime next spring. Once this hole is closed, his sats will go up even more to the mid to upper 90s!!!! Absolutely amazing!!!
