On Friday, May 1, the second graders went on a field trip to Mansker's Station and Rock Castle as a part of their unit on Tennessee History. It was a beautiful and fun day, and I know the kids learned so much!
In the school room at Mansker's Station, the kids learned what it was like to go to school in the 18th century. They even had a chance to write with a quill pen.
Learning about being a blacksmith...
In the trade shop, they learned about bartering and trading for supplies. They also had an opportunity to use the yoke to carry the water...just like the people in the 18th century did.
At Rock Castle, the kids toured the historic home of Daniel Smith. They were able to see some of the original furnishings and learn all about the history of the home.
The kids had an opportunity to see and play with several games that were played by children in the 18th century.
Some of my favorite second graders...
