It is hard to believe that our little Colby is already a week old. It is even harder to believe that we are still in the NICU for things that have nothing to do with his heart! We have learned not to get too excited on the good hours/days, because there could always be another set back. But, we are still thankful that he is as healthy as he is...it could always be worse!
Here is what we have heard today from the doctors:According to cardiology, Colby should not need any intervention on his heart until 4-6 months of age...I hope that this situation stays the same!
Neurology just finished another EEG to look for seizure activity. If it looks good, they are planning to take him off of the anti-seizure medication and see what happens. We will of course be here for a few days after discontinuing the medication for monitoring.
He is still having a hard time keeping his body temp up with no explanation. He is currently back in the warming bed. The doctor said this morning that he won't be able to come home until he can keep his temp up on his own. This temperature issue concerns them b/c he is not showing any other symptoms that should be related to other issues. It is our mystery of the day.....
To throw another twist to our Monday they told us late yesterday that he has shown positive for a blood infection. Given this test result they automatically started him on another round of antibiotics. They are testing him again to see if he is really fighting an infection or if it was a false positive. They have to get two negative tests back to confirm a false positive and these tests take days b/c they are cultured to see what kinda cool things they can grow.....His appearance and temperament are great. Since they have lowered the dosage on his anti-seizure medicine little C has been more alert and active throughout the day which has been great. Colby continues to gain weight which is another awesome step in the right direction.
We have become addicted to checking for posts on the site b/c they are always so encouraging. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to keep up and sharing your encouraging thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions let us know in a post and we will answer them when we update.....

How awesome that he won't need any heart intervention yet. Praise God! He'll get that temp thing figured out... I'll keep praying for no seizures, no blood infection and keeping his temperature on his own. He's sure a little doll. Keep up the faith and great parenting...it's tough in the hospital but before you know it, you'll have him home! Also, I found an adult with Tricuspid Atresia...a 41 year old! Such wonderful news!! He's a little fighter and he'll be home before you know it! Maggie, Kate and I were just talking about how excited we were about the wonderful news with Colby's heart. Hey can you see if you can get some of that med that was making him loopy? You can bring that in next time you visit, since tea cakes are out of the question now. We'll be happy to settle for some narcotics....

I too was a little worried with no update since Sunday, but am very relieved to hear the happy news, that is what we are all waiting in anticipation to hear about! He looks so snuggly all swaddled up like that in the warm bed.. why would he want to leave, you know apart from hanging with his bro and mum and dad!!??

Just got word of Colby's arrival and I read the blogs to get caught up. What a journey you've started. There are almost no words for the depths and heights you experience at a time like this. I know for us, what we went through with our little guy has caused us to celebrate the little things, even to this day, so much more. Heartache has a way of presenting unique opportunities for us to see God in ways we can't, or don't need to, when life is easy.We have been and will continue to pray for you all.
